In October 2019, Dr. Kamala Retnam M was instrumental in performing the first percutaneous thyroid nodule ablation in Tamil Nadu, a landmark achievement in endocrine and interventional care. This procedure introduced a modern, non-surgical solution for thyroid nodules, avoiding open surgery, general anesthesia, and long recovery periods.

The clinical findings and follow-up results of this historic procedure were later published as a pilot study in the Indian Association of Endocrine Surgeons Newsletter in September 2020, validating the safety, effectiveness, and long-term outcomes of image-guided thyroid ablation.
